Title: Problems with GISH freezin up my comp
Post by: minimalniemand on July 02, 2004, 04:16:27 PM
I tried both:

Music off / Sound on: Freezing, after one Level, some Sprites where not shown correctly (just as white quadrangles)

Music on / Sound off: Works fine, but I died instantly one time when entering one level before anything happened, that means I started with energy = 0 before I could do a thing and had a life less after that.

Is there anything else you need to know? a error log file that I could send you? screenshots? system configuration details?

My Configuration:

Dell Inspiron 8600 (Laptop)
1,4 Ghz Intel Centrino
GeForce 5200Go
512 MB Ram
Windows XP

Problem description:

I can play one level (whether which one) without having any problems. Then, when playing another level (also not important which one or which play mode) the comp freezes and I have to hard reset it.
when entering this 2nd level the gish figure appears (image already frozen) then its life energy changes to 0 and the backround appears (only mouse cursor, but frozen) thats it.

When I exit the game after one level and then restart it, it works fine (until the next level ...) But I really dont want to restart the game after each level *gg

What type of sound card do you have?  I remember you said your sound drivers were updated recently, but it must be something with your sound card/drivers that is causing this bug.

Its a SigmaTel Audio AC97 (onboard). I believe this is a common chip for onboard sound ...

to make sure I really have the newest drivers I downloaded them today from the DELL website and reinstalled them. unfortunately this didn't solve the problem =(

This is a very stange problem.  Here are a couple of things to try:

1.  Uninstall and reinstall Gish
2.  Update your video card (www.nvidia.com) and sound drivers.
3.  Make sure you are not running any other software while playing Gish.

See if that helps.

I reinstalled it and tried to register again. "Connecting..." was shown, but nothing happened. So I killed the task and tried again. Same again. I killed the task again and tried to register offline (on the website with the unique code)
Same here - nothing happened. I waited a little bit and tried it 5 minutes ago and now it says that this code has been activated to many times ...

So I even cant start the game to test if the reinstall of graphic drivers and the game worked

???  :(

Now that its starting again, try turning the sound and music off before you start any levels.

The sound-thing works! The levels are a little bit choppy, but it dont freezes!

Interesting, could you try turning off the sound and the music seperatly and see which one is causing the problem?  It is probably the music, so you can try it with that first.
