Beta Testing / Overall impressions of Kingdom Elemental
November 11, 2006, 10:30:11 PM
Loved it, played through the whole thing.  The right balance between strategy, experimentation, and luck.

Beta Testing / What heroes did you not use and why:

I didn't use cutthroat, paladin, bard, or monk on any level.  I experimented with each, but always fell back to the other units.

My typical strategy was to have 1 cleric, at least 1 sword, 1 elementalist, as many archers as I could afford, and mix in some druids and occassionally a necromancer.  Beat the whole game that way.

Just finished the game... I think it's a fairly old build, but in order of usefulness:
Archer
Swordsman
Cleric
Elementalist
Druid
Necromancer

The voices for the Elementalist, druid, and necromancer were my favorites of the ones I used often.

Beta Testing / Other Feedback:

The story was ok, though there were some grammatical mistakes in the intro (I'm a nitpicker, my mom has written two grammar textbooks).

I would have like to have just been given more unlock points instead of having the units automatically unlock between chapters.

It's probably too late for this, but adding more passive specials for the character would have been nice, then you could really customize your army with the unlocks.

I tend to use a lot of archers.  If you can control aggro with the sword/cleric combo, the archers are awesome.  They can run away pretty quick too.  Elemental is great.  And I was enjoying druid as well.  Necro makes the beginning of the battle tough, but if you can get a skeleton up, it makes the whole battle much easier.

Beta Testing / How much should Kingdom Elemental cost:
November 06, 2006, 06:37:22 PM
15 dollars is a useless pricepoint, and that's been generally shown again and again on the indiegamer forums.  I haven't heard anyone say that they increased their units moved with 15 over 20.  Go with 20.

Beta Testing / Level Difficulty
November 06, 2006, 06:36:14 PM
It is hard, but it feels just right.  On the other hand, I played an alpha a while ago, so I already knew how to play, so I'm not sure if my feedback here is worth much.  I remember thinking the alpha was too hard, I couldn't pass the first wave of the first level for a while, but I'm sure things have changed since then.  (The reason that I couldn't pass it is that I didn't really know how to use the special abilities very well yet).

I use 1 sword and 1 cleric in most battles (for sword's Taunt and Cleric's heal) I load up on Archers.  I use 1 ELemental when he's available.  Necromancer for battles with many rounds, and Druids for the battles with fast enemies.  Sometimes I use monk for the anti-stun and heal abilities.  Most of the more expensive units are too vulnerable since they take away from my ability to use the sword/cleric combination to control aggro.

Beta Testing / Bugs
November 06, 2006, 06:29:27 PM
-Alt-tab crashes the game (Not a hard crash, Task Manager still seeing the program as running)

-Music still plays when I alt-tab out

-Alt-enter doesn't work, what if I want to play in a window?
