Title: Controller mapping?
Post by: xyzyxx on October 29, 2005, 07:46:37 PM
Hey. I just bought a USB game controller for our PC and am trying to figure out the best button layout that would be used for Gish.

The controller I have is a 12 button, 4-axis (PS2 clone) controller. 4 face buttons, plus start and select, two analog stick with buttons in them, 4 shoulder buttons, and a D-pad.

Do any of you guys play Gish with a controller? What buttons did you map to which controls?

I setup the top left (L1) to be slippery, top right (r1) to be Heavy.  I put sticky right above jump on the main buttons and put the menu button as one of ther others.  Hard to explain unless you are looking at the gamepad, but it works out that stick is button 1, jump button 3 and menu button 5.

I use a game pad which has 4 buttons at the right side. At the moment I use the following mapping:

        JUMP
          |
STICK ---- HEAVY
          |
        SLIDE

Furthermore another button on the gamepad is for START.

At first I had the same configuration except that I swapped JUMP and SLIDE. Until now I can't really say which configuration is better.

PS: I use a Saitek 1500 with 10 buttons.
